Who among us has not walked or driven past a home or business that was being worked on by professional landscapers and noticed the difference between it and an amateur job. So then what is it that makes such a huge difference? The answer to that is that the pros use proven techniques. Methods and techniques that you can use.
For instance professional landscapers will always take the time to condition the soil before they use it for planting. Particularly close up next to a building. You see, all too often when a foundation is dug and a building is erected, the thin layer of top soil is removed or covered over. Add some mulch and also test it to find out its ph level and your plants will grow so much better.
Large rocks or “boulders” are a great yard and home decorating trick and you’re far better off with one large boulder rather than several smaller rocks. Now be aware that really big boulders can be costly due to their “difficulty in handling”. Also make darn sure that you think well where it’s going because once it’s dropped off the truck, if it’s a big one, you’re stuck with it right where it is.
Now who doesn’t just love water features and the best of all of them have fish swimming around in them. You can see them around commercial buildings like Asian restaurants. Now it can be tempting to have one installed by your front or back porch but what you will find out is that they’re extremely difficult and messy to maintain. Check out the new prefabricated waterfalls that are so much easier.
If you live in a sunny hot climate then you may be far better served by “looking up” before you look down. That is that you might be better served by investing your resources in creating some shade in your yard with things like porch awnings and large shade trees before you start in on ground cover. Larger trees are for sure more costly but you don’t have to wait for them to grow.
Then lastly putting off installing an irrigation system is just too easy to do. You’re anxious to get started planting and besides, your plants are all so small and easy to water. The fact is that they will grow and it often gets to the point where hand watering is just too time consuming. A good quality irrigation system makes maintaining your yard so much easier, and adds value to your property.
